Clayton Marine
Clayton Peake began his boat building career while working for his father, Steve Peake, in the acclaimed Skippercraft business. During this time Clayton built and operated his own 24ft 6" charter boat "Escort" operating successfully out of St. Kilda SA. Skippercraft was established in the 1960s and continued to gain credibility in the industry as it grew. Skippercraft built the first commercial fibreglass Government-approved boats in South Australia and ultimately Clayton after establishing his own business in 1979 bought his father's company in 1986 and formed Clayton Marine Pty Ltd. The new entity has maintained that credibility and extended it to national and overseas markets.
Clayton Marine has a history of building vessels to suit the requirements of the growing commercial and pleasure markets. Commercial boats built for the pro fisherman include net, line, lobster, long line, charter fishing & oyster punts. Government boats include Coastal Patrol, Sea Rescue & Fisheries vessels.
All vessels are built to meet strict Marine Survey requirements and approval.
Over the years, Clayton Marine found that the recreational fisherman were looking for the same standard of sea worthiness as the commercial sector and consequently, 50% of their boats are now built for the recreational market. Passenger-carrying vessels, charter vessels & game fishing vessels are among the company's growing market.
Clayton Marine has previously exported to Indonesia, Japan, New Guinea & New Zealand.
The business name “Clayton Marine Pty Ltd” is well respected in the industry, both locally and nationally, and with its history of quality and pride to back the name, it continues to be one of Australia’s highly successful custom boat building companies.
Commercial & pleasure craft built some 30 years ago are still operating in their respective industries today.
